This talented lady has been the voice of Doraemon since the year 2005. Since then, she has also voiced one another very famous cartoon character and has also done voice overs in movies. Read on to know her story.
Brought up in Delhi, Sonal's mom was a presenter with All India Radio. Through her she came to know about the audition for the voice of Doraemon at UTV. She auditioned and was instantly selected.
"I did not realise that Doraemon would become so big. I was chosen for the role, and for me it was like a picnic. My mother would get me chocolates and chips and I would have fun recording my lines in the studio."
Sonal shifted to Mumbai in the year 2013, to find better work opportunities. She says, UTV was one of the few companies in Delhi, so she had to make this move for a better future. But she still dubs for Doraemon because UTV doesn't want to replace her.
She is the third person to become the voice of Bheem. Before her, Vatsal Dubey was the original artist, who was followed by Parigna Shah and now she has perfectly matched her voice to suit the style set by her predecessors.
Sonal has lent her voice to many characters like Amy Jackson in Freaky Ali, Mandy in The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Mighty Raju (English), Darby in My Friends Tigger and Pooh and Arya Stark in Game of Thrones.
Sonal says her job is not as easy as everyone assumes it to be. There are professional hazards like injury to the voice box then there is the requirement of recording for hours in a studio, alone. There was one character that damaged her voice box to an extent that she had to take a break from recording or she might have lost her voice. Also, she is very careful about what she eats because she cannot risk getting an infection or a sore throat.
Sonal is 25-years-old now and she is taking over the industry she is a part of. We wish her all the success in her future assignments. Are you surprised to know the voice behind Chhota Bheem?
